Tender methods
Last updated 2026-05-28
Tender methods are how customers pay — Cash, Card, Check, Charge account, and any custom tenders you add for things like a third-party gift-card system, a Shopify sync, an ACH or bank-transfer clearing tender, or a rebate payout.
In the Admin mode, open the Company tab. The Tender methods section sits at the bottom of the page.
The tender methods Rundoo supports
Every Rundoo company starts with a set of Default tender methods baked in. On top of those, you can add any number of Custom methods to match how your store actually takes money.

The Type column tells you which is which:
- Default — built into Rundoo. You can't deactivate them or change what they're used for.
-
Card— credit and debit via Stripe (swipe, insert, tap, or manually-entered). -
Cash— physical cash. Pops the drawer and calculates change. -
Check— paper check. You'll record the check number at payment. -
Charge account— charge-account tender. The sale commits as an invoice on the customer's AR balance instead of taking payment now. Only appears if the customer has a charge account — see Finance terms for how that works. -
Gift card— Rundoo's built-in gift-card tender. -
ACH— bank-draft for receivables payments (paying down an invoice, not taking a sale). -
Write off— zeroes out an AR balance you're not going to collect. Receivables-only. -
Custom — ones Rundoo Support set up for you. Use these for anything the defaults don't cover: a third-party gift-card system, a Shopify sync, a clearing tender for ACH transfers received outside of Stripe (e.g. through Bill.com), a rebate payout, or an accounting clearing tender.
The Usages column lists everywhere the method is accepted: Sales, Returns, Receivables payments, Receivables refunds, Deposits, Deposits refunds. The Active column is the on/off switch — Inactive methods don't appear at the counter.
Card surcharges (the Card fee (3%) line on a sale) aren't configured here — they live in Admin > Communications > Card payment surcharge. See Card surcharges for how to turn them on and set the percentage.
Adding a custom tender method
Custom tender methods are added by Rundoo Support. Click + Add method in the top-right of the Tender methods section. A modal opens titled Add custom tender method with a one-line message: To add a custom method of tender, email support@rundoo.ai.
Email support@rundoo.ai with:
-
Name — what to call the tender. This shows up in reports and in the tender picker at the register.
-
Receipt label — the label that prints on receipts and invoices, if you want it different from the Name. Optional.
-
Usages — which of these the tender should apply to:
Sales,Returns,Receivables payments,Receivables refunds,Deposits,Deposits refunds. -
Require a note? — whether the cashier should be required to type a note when this tender is selected. Good for clearing tenders where you want a paper trail.
For example: a store that takes ACH transfers through Bill.com for AR payments would email Support asking for a tender called Online bank payment with Usages of Receivables payments and Receivables refunds — and Deposits too, if they also accept ACH for quote deposits. Support sets it up and it appears in the table.
The Activate, Cancel, and Save buttons in the modal don't do anything — the only action that adds a tender method is the email to Support.
Editing or deactivating a method
Click any row in the Tender methods table to open it. The same Add custom tender method modal opens — Rundoo Support handles edits and deactivations the same way as creates.
Email support@rundoo.ai with the tender Name and what you want changed:
-
Rename — what to change
Nameor the receiptLabelto. -
Change Usages — add or remove
Sales,Returns,Receivables payments, etc. -
Deactivate — stop the tender from appearing at POS and in receivables.
Historical sales that used a now-deactivated tender stay intact — the tender just stops appearing as a payment option going forward. Reactivating a tender works the same way: email Support and it returns to the picker without losing its previous configuration.
How tender methods appear at POS
Every Active tender that's Accept for sales shows up in the payment panel when a cashier finalizes a Sale. Card is selected by default; the rest appear as radio buttons below.

A few things worth knowing about how this feels at the counter:
-
Charge accountonly appears when a customer is attached and has a charge account. If it's missing at payment, back up to the cart and attach the customer — or confirm they're on a Finance term that makes them a charge account. See Finance terms. -
CardandGift cardhave extra UI. Card showsSwipe card(reader picker) andEnter card manuallyside-by-side;Gift cardprompts for the card number. The other tenders just ask for an amount. -
Split payment(top-right of the payment panel) lets a cashier break one sale across multiple tenders — e.g.Gift cardfor part of it,Cashfor the rest. Most Active tenders the sale allows show up in a split, including anyCustomones.Charge accountis the one exception — Rundoo silently leaves it out of the split tender list. To bill a charge customer, finalize the whole sale onCharge accountinstead.
The full sale walkthrough lives in Sales — the Step 5 "Take payment" section is where this panel lives.
