Because Rundoo is web-based, you can use it on any tablet. If you are starting from scratch and looking for an affordable way to get started, the below combination will run $410 before tax as of December 2024:

  1. **iPad 10th generation ($279)** — If you want something cheaper, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 is $130 and slow but manageable. If you want something faster, the iPad Air is $500 and has higher performance.
  2. **Unicorn Beetle Case ($30)** — Much cheaper than an Otterbox, but we’ve found it to be just as durable. It comes with a screen protector and a stand if you’d like.
  3. **Zebra DS2208 ($90)** — A reliable, wired barcode scanner to use with the table.
  4. **USB-C to USB Adapter ($10)** — To connect the barcode scanner to the computer.

Step 1: Sign in via text message

This is no different from how you would normally log in. Go to your subdomain.rundoo.app, tap “Sign in via text message”, and enter your ID. Rundoo will send you a 6-digit code to log in, and then you’re all set.

Step 2: Maximize your space

Because most tablet screens are smaller than computers (~10” vs 20+”), you may want to take a few steps to expand the space you have. First, you can collapse the side bar.

You can also “zoom out” on your browser.

Step 3: Connect a barcode scanner

There are two ways to do this

  1. Wired barcode scanner + USB-C to USB converter ($100). This is the cheaper option and works great. You can buy a wired barcode scanner. We have found the Zebra DS2208 to be a good option at $90, though any should do. This has a USB plug on one end, so in order to plug it in to your tablet, which likely only has a USB-C port, you’ll need a USB-C to USB converter, which are <$10.

As a reminder, once you plug it in, you will have to configure the barcode reader to put a “|” on either side to work with Rundoo. See here for guides on how to do that based on your reader. This one works for the DS2208.

  2. Bluetooth barcode scanners ($300). To avoid the cord, you could get a bluetooth-enabled scanner like the SocketScan 720.
